At Avazyme, we believe that giving back to our community is essential, and we take immense pride in our volunteer efforts with the American Chemical Society (ACS). Despite being a small team, we’ve dedicated significant time and resources to support ACS initiatives, particularly in empowering the next generation of scientists.

ur team has been actively involved in numerous ACS-related activities. Anibal Lopes has played a pivotal role in ACS Project SEED, which provides invaluable opportunities for high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Avazyme has consistently supported this initiative by volunteering lab space, materials, and resources to ensure these students gain hands-on scientific experience.

Our commitment doesn’t stop there. Two of our executive team members hold leadership roles in ACS — with Volker Borneman as past-chair of NC ACS and Anibal Lopes serving in various capacities. Additionally, Steve dedicated several years volunteering at the annual Festival for the Eno, and Jen, along with her children, have also contributed their time to this meaningful cause.

We are especially proud of our involvement in outreach events like the ACS National Chemistry Week celebration at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, where we helped connect science with the public. From supporting job fairs to partnering with local universities and high schools, Avazyme is committed to fostering curiosity and passion for science in our community.

A special shoutout to our dedicated volunteers and everyone who joined us at the recent NC ACS Volunteer Dinner — a fantastic gathering that celebrated these meaningful contributions.
