Pesticides, Biopesticides, Antimicrobials
Pesticides protect the production crops that make the foods we eat and the clothes we wear possible. Avazyme’s ability to pursue the safety and industrial efficiency of your pesticide, biopesticide or antimicrobial makes us an invaluable resource to its regulatory and development life, allowing you to focus on bringing your product to the world.
- Regulatory Studies (GLP/non-GLP) – The EPA regulates pesticides in order to protect human health and the environment, and requires the submission of efficacy and safety data including product chemistry and residue chemistry studies before a pesticide can be approved.
-
- Antimicrobials – To generate data related to your product’s efficacy and safety, Avazyme uses microbiological assays to evaluate efficacy, and various chromatographic and spectrometric methods to determine chemical residuals and inter-product interactions.
- EPA Series 810
- Product Chemistry – End-use and manufacturing products are regulated by odor, flammability, purity, and more. The EPA Series 830 tests analyze these characteristics of your product, as well as the analytical method used for enforcement.

- Environmental Fate – Volatility, photolysis, hydrolysis, and metabolism are some of the qualities for which Environmental Fate studies seek to provide data; these qualities are informative as to what long-term effects your product might have and are covered, among others, in the EPA Series 835 Test Guidelines.
- EPA Series 835 Test Guidelines
- Residue Chemistry – Avazyme employs NMR, GC-MS, and LC-MS to detect and quantify any pesticide residues associated with your product. Once we have determined a residue’s identity, we can decide together with our client, whether this residue should be included in the regulatory residue definition, and consequently in the residue analytical method.

- Biochemical Pesticides – Avazyme’s HPLC and NMR instruments allow us to determine your product’s identity and its impurities. If your product’s impurity levels or formulation process does not conform to federal regulations, we can refine your method to generate a compound with lower toxicity and/or higher purity.

- R&D – It’s paramount that your pesticide is reproducible, identifiable, and standardized in its purity (product specifications). Avazyme develops methods to support manufacturing specification and batch release testing, as well as stability studies and stress testing/forced degradation studies.
- Pesticide Residue Screens – Avazyme offers both a comprehensive pesticide residue screen as well as a customized USDA Organic pesticide residue screen, both of which are performed using LC-MS.
- Contaminants – Manufacturing processes can naturally result in the production of substances other than the intended product. Such impurities can come from process contaminants, API and non-active component degradation, leachables, unreacted monomers/oligomers, and oxidized additives. We typically measure less volatile impurities with LC-MS and more volatile impurities with GC-MS, as the absence of a proper mobile phase can allow for a more accurate structural evaluation in some cases. Upon isolating your impurity, we have the capacity to perform further MS, NMR, ICP, and other specialized investigations.
- 5 Batch Analysis – Production pesticides all undergo a preliminary ‘5 Batch’ analysis whereby all active ingredients and impurities are identified and measured to GLP standards. Studies at Avazyme begin with impurity isolation; these impurities are then used in verified analytical methods to test your product for impurities before ultimate batch characterization.
- Product Specification – Characterizing your product is done through testing for the qualities listed below, and is essential for compliance with federal guidelines for product registration. (Product and by-product analysis (IS/OOS)).
